The Digital EternalMemory, Nostalgia and Connected Thinking in the Digital Age

The rise of digital media has irreversibly transformed the way we experience memories and nostalgia. Once rooted in multi-sensory physical experiences, our memories and longings for the past are now generated, stored, and mediated by computers and mobile devices, which are increasingly dispersed among intangible servers and file formats.

Annette Thurston, executive director of Citizen, will explore the history and evolution of memory and nostalgia, considering its relationship to digital media and data and how the shift from physical to digital is revolutionizing the industry, users, and our society as a whole. Using Citizen’s Connected Thinking methodology, she will discuss how designers and developers can create new and disruptive platforms and experiences that can restore our emotional bond with media, as well as parallel content strategies to prepare their products for this shift.
