Twitter’s Kevin Cheng to Speak on “Communicating Ideas with Comics”

Kevin Cheng

Kevin missed the memo to stop drawing after the first grade. Nowadays, he splits his crayon time between Twitter, where he is the product manager for the web client, and finishing a book that is the basis for his session “See What I Mean: How to Communicate Ideas With Comics“.

Kevin has a history of mixing his many passions for games, comics, design and technology. He was the Director of User Experience for the gaming social network Raptr and the designer for Yahoo! Pipes. He co-founded the user experience web comic OK/Cancel, and the online comic publishing network Off Panel Productions. Through Off Panel, he recently co-created an iPhone augmented reality game called “ARGH”.

Bold Ideas and Insane Possibilities

Merlin Mann

What did we do before APIs, jQuery, XML, application frameworks, and open source blogging tools? Well. The truth is we did quite a lot. But, even as our wrenches and pipes have matured and even transformed, it’s more worthwhile than ever to ask ourselves what we’re producing with all of that massive horsepower.

In his Friday afternoon keynote on “Bold Ideas and Insane Possibilities,” Merlin Mann will explore the question of how our creative output has kept up with our technological innovation and whether we’re driving a legitimate revolution in how the world sees, thinks and collaborates, or simply devising a more sophisticated method for telling millions of people about what we had for breakfast.

It’s time for bold ideas and the realization of insane possibilities. That’s what the future of the Web is all about.

Design Strategy in a Nutshell

Design Strategy in a Nutshell

In her half-day workshop on “Design Strategy in a Nutshell: Connecting Design with Business Value,” Kate Rutter examines how good design alone isn’t enough to get great experiences out into the world. You need to be smart about how you start and finish as well. That’s where design strategy comes into play—ensuring that the design of products and services meets business needs, leverages your design opportunities (and abilities) and delivers real customer value.

The problem? Most businesses don’t have full-time design strategists waiting in the wings to pounce on problems as they arise. So as designers, we’re positioned to create the plans that connect user and business value. Designers are asked to bridge that gap almost every day, but knowing where to start when putting together a strategy can be tough, especially with all the other things competing for your time. The good news is that putting together a quick strategy on a shoestring isn’t as hard or complex as you may think.
